Geosciences, RS & GIS

Recognizing the potential and importance of Geoscience in addressing major interdisciplinary research issues of global importance, RCSD proposes in undertaking a holistic framework which integrates research on Earth Systems Science, Engineering and Technology, Policy-making and Governance to develop sustainable solutions within an appropriate socio-economic context. A fundamental goal of the research area is to gain a better understanding of the coupling of natural systems and human activity, and thereby leading to an effective management of natural systems. The relevance lies in designing technological systems (e.g. water, natural hazards, agriculture, landuse) focused not only on their complexity but on the natural, social and cultural systems to which they are inevitably coupled. The areas of research are:

·         Geomorphology and Natural hazards

·         Tectonic and Structural Geology

·         Terrain modelling, Spatial Data Management and map production

·         GIS-enabled information systems for management of soil and water in watershed

GIS applications is a growing industry and the infrastructure and inputs necessary being large, the area therefore presently concentrate on in-house support.
